Young Scientists Forum

On October 3, the All-Russian Forum of Young Scientists «Pole» of the ’Rosmolodezh.Events’ platform finished in Arkhangelsk. The forum was attended by more than 200 young people aged 14 to 35 who are interested in and involved in scientific research. The forum became a platform for current scientific discussions and the development of innovative projects. The participants of the event attended master classes, lectures, excursions, and special attention was paid to the preparation of scientific projects.

Pavel Maryandyshev, Acting Rector of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov highlighted that one of the key challenge of the Decade of Science and Technology is to engage the young people in scientific activities, the participation of young scientists in solving problems of achieving technological autonomy of Russia. The products developed by forum participants are designed with this objective in mind.

Thus, in the «Researchers» course, the participants presented the project of Creating a Socio-psychological Portrait of Residents of the Arctic Region Via Gamification. The development is a game to determine the risk zone for the development of deviant behavior and other socio-psychological characteristics.

Participants also proposed projects on «Monitoring Ballast Water Using Buoy Biostations ALong the Northern Sea Route,» «Optimization of the Process of Recycling Drilling Mud in the Arctic Shelf,» and «Optimization of Hydrogen Production Technology for Energy Supply in the Arctic.»

At the Innovators platform, the young people worked in a hackathon format and then presented a startup. The jury included representatives of the regional government and companies such as «Severalmaz» JSC, «Norilsk Nickel», «Alabuga» and others. The projects include the development of a software package for optimizing the process of working with reports on the training of employees of «Severalmaz» JSC; the creation of a digital service for accumulating startups, innovative projects and scientific research on a single platform; and the development of a service for automatically checking the reliability of news published on the corporate portal of Alabuga with the ability to notify company employees about fake news.

At the «Popularizers» platform, participants worked in three areas, i.e. tourism and volunteering, journalism and blogging, and scientific stand-up. The young people developed a series of full-length videos with young scientists for VK video, a series of children’s comics on an online platform with AR elements on the topic of space research to popularize science among children in 1-6 grades, a scientific and tourist route around Arkhangelsk, as well as master classes.

Participants of the «First» course developed popular science projects for schoolchildren, i.e. a series of popular science comics, a program of scientific debates «Lomonosov Battles», and the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference of schoolchildren of the Movement of the First «Science is Fashionable.»

At the forum, five projects were selected as winners of the ’Rosmolodezh.Grants’ competition, with a total of over 3 million rubles in funding awarded to them. The award ceremony was held at the closing ceremony of the forum in the Main Building of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonsov.
